A New Year

A new year is a good time to reflect on things we'd like to change in our lives. It's a chance to make things right, to become better in some way, to go in a new direction. I heard a couple of radio hosts discussing resolutions the other day and they decided that it's better to "set goals" rather than "make resolutions." I think I agree with that. Resolutions sound so much like drawing a line in the sand that can blow away with the wind. And yet, even our goals are just targets that can move a hair askew or blow miles away depending on what God allows in the weather patterns of our lives. So my main goal this new year -- I won't make it a resolution -- will be to allow God to be God in my life and to accept from his hand what he sees fit to bring. I guess a new year is as good a time as any to stop trying to be in control and to let God do his thing. So happy new year!
